Information
Joseph Scanlon grew up in Richfield, Minnesota, and he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. After college, he spent several years working in the Twin Cities business community before returning to the University of Minnesota to obtain his Juris Doctor.
While in Law School, Joe was a staff member and Editor of the Minnesota Journal of Law and Inequality (JLI). Several of his written works have been published, including his academic note, Long-Term Discrimination: Addressing the Disparate Treatment of Claimants with Mental Disabilities in Long-Term Disability Insurance, and a shorter article featured on Inequality Inquiry titled, It’s Time to End the Use of Race and Gender Statistics in Damage Award Calculations.
Joe has spent his entire legal career with Fields Law Firm, starting out as a Clerk while attending law school before progressing into an attorney after being admitted to the bar. His practice areas are Long Term Disability and Personal Injury, which gives him an opportunity to help clients through some of the most difficult periods of their lives. Working with individuals who are dealing with injuries or disabling medical conditions requires empathy, compassion, and unwavering commitment, all of which are traits reflected in Joe’s professional legal practice. He is at his best when he is advocating for those in need, and he approaches all challenges intent on securing the best possible outcome for his clients.
Mr. Scanlon is currently admitted to practice in federal court in the District of Minnesota, in addition to state courts in Minnesota. He is a member of the Federal Bar Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association, Ramsey County Bar Association, the Minnesota Association for Justice, and the American Bar Association.
Outside of work, Joe is a family man, spending most of his free time with his wife, two small children, and the family’s Siberian Husky. He volunteers at his children’s elementary school whenever possible, and he has also volunteered at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota in the past. If he’s not busy with work or family time, you might also find Joe at local sporting events cheering on the Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Twins, or the Gopher football team.
